Young plant with healthy roots in coconut coir

Why coconut coir

A better home for roots

  • Holds water and still drains, so roots get moisture and air.
  • Renewable. Made from coconut husk, not dug from peat bogs.
  • Washed to low salt levels, with a pH close to neutral.
  • Re-wets easily, even after it dries out.
  • Compressed about 5 to 1, so a small brick goes a long way.

How it works

Just add water

Coir arrives compressed, so it is light to ship and easy to store. Water brings it back to life in under an hour.

1

Soak

Put the brick in a bucket and add warm water, about half a gallon for a 650 g brick.

2

Wait and fluff

Give it 30 to 40 minutes to soak up the water, then break it apart by hand.

3

Plant

Use it on its own or mix it into potting soil, beds and containers. One brick makes about 10 quarts.
